Choosing Your Reception Style
When preparing for your reception you want to make sure that you have more than enough food and seating for everyone that will attend. More often than not you will have more people there than you planned on. Some people make it a habit to skip the ceremony and head straight for the reception. When it comes to free food people just can’t resist.
There are two different receptions that you can choose from. You can have a sit down reception where there are waiters and waitresses serving you and your guests or you can have a buffet.
Having a sit down reception is the more expensive choice and is for those of you who are looking for an elegant way to celebrate your new marriage. We suggest that you have no more than two options for what people can eat. It is wise to choose the food that most people would be likely to eat. For example you would probably not want to serve fish because some people are allergic to it and some don’t like it.
Chicken and steak is always the best thing to choose from (especially chicken). You can also have a salad (or other veggie), rolls, and of course for dessert they can choose between the grooms cake or the brides. Don’t forget the coffee.
The reason this is the more expensive choice is because it requires you to hire people to cook the food specifically and to cook enough for everyone. You also have to find someone who will provide people to take your orders and serve the people.
Choosing the buffet style is more cost effective – but don’t think that it is a tacky choice. When done right you can make this an elegant choice. I went to a wedding that had a buffet line – but there were beautiful table to go back too.
Picking out the food for a buffet line will allow you to choose more of a variety of foods and you will find that many people will love everything. You can have little finger foods, sandwiches, and then some larger dishes. I have even seen people put up a chocolate fountain with fruit to dip into it. This makes a great centerpiece for one of the buffet tables giving it that extra elegant look.
