Farewell Showers - Birdseed, Bubbles, And More
There used to be only one way to see the bride & groom off on their honeymoon. People would stand on the side of the church walkway on steps and throw raw rice at the departing couple as they ran to their car. This age old tradition burnout of rice being in sign of prosperity for the new couple had inherent problems to it.
Rice when eaten by birds or small animals can cause problems in their small stomachs. It was also a terrible mess to cleanup in the event of rain. Now we have ventured into a new era. There are now several better options to the rice version. If you want something close to the traditional, but safer for the little creatures use birdseed.
Birdseed flies like rice, but doesn’t require any of the cleanup and will actually provide food for the wildlife. Another choice is flower petals, which are beautiful, colorful and smell great. As with the bird seed they are environmentally safe, but not a food source.
A third and very popular choice is bubbles. The great part of bubbles is that they will provide smiles from all in attendance, requiring no cleanup - and a definite positive is that they will make awesome photographic shots, especially in black and white. So whether you are environmentally conscious or not - these three choices are definitely better than rice.
